Dear Ho,
Thank you very much for your letter of
April 2. It was a great pleasure to have it and
to be reminded of our contact last autumn, I really
can't say that I remember Haverford as a sleepy
place I I was impressed by the many international
contacts many of you had and the active part in
international relief and research taken by them.
Recently we saw the Teafs rather frequently and in
a few days they will leave us. Howard Teaf was a
very active member of our factilty and gave us very
useful suggestions for our institute which is still
in its infancy, and he will no doubt have to tell
you of many shortcomings in ovtr organisation and in
our contacts with the students. In Rotterdam we had
also a visiting Professor, Lowell Harriss frcM
Coltambia, who was also highly appi^eciated by our
students and our colleagues,
I had a chsnce about a month ago to meet one
of the economic advisers of the President, IJr Jacoby,
who informed us in Paris about the policies so far
followed to counteract the depression and prospects
as he saw them, I must say that v/e feel soraev^hat
reassured! of course we are still eagerly follov/ing
further developments.
All of us are feeling well and I am uncertain
about our future plans since we do not hear frc»n
India. But there will be a visit of Prof.Mahalanobls
within a few weeks and that may clarify matters.
