Dear Rotarian,
Unfortunately I vra,s ill when you gave-your second
address to our club,but I was able to get a copy of your text. Sup
fluous to say that I read your speech with great interest. There
is one point, however, on v/hlch I want to draw attention. Figures
calculated by the well-knov/n Australian statistician Colin Clark
suggest that production per man-hour in the United States have
always been, during the last'century at least, considerably above
production per man-hour in European countries. The enclosed chart
Y;hich is on a logarithmic ssale and taken from his publication
even suggests that development, as long as. we know it, has been ino
or less parallel. It might be interesting for you to check his
calculations with the material at your disposal.

Your analysis of the attitude of Dutch entrepreneurs and wQ-^rs
was very interesting again and, as far as I can see, to the p o i n t "
am glad you appeared to have observed already som.e change. I do think
there is a trend towards more understanding bet?/een the various groups
of society, but it is true that the European society is much more subdivided in almost v/atertight compartments than American society seems
to be.
