It Is already quite some time ago that
we had the most stimulating and pleasant evening
at yo\ir home, ^t is one of the fine remenibrances
of our Haverford time. As I often say to ray friends
in Holland, ray Haverford period was a sort of a
cultural vacation in which I found the opportunity
because of the presence of soraaiiyexpert colleai^ues
to make small excursions into various fields
around my own field. You very i/Mch contributed
to this, and also to our high esteem of cultural
life at Haverford College, We hope the little
book about Rotterdam we sent you some weeks ago
will be accepted by you as a modest sign of our
gratitude.
